A Quick Backstory
Grant’s FD has been with him for a little over a decade. A car that he loves & enjoys. This car has been a special little car amongst the Birmingham car scene & rotary scene for quite some time. A regular attendee of cars & coffee & Magic City Octane, this car is typically found hiding amongst the crowd that it draws.
Rear End
The RE-Amemiya rear diffuser, Shine Auto carbon spoiler, and various other carbon accents such as the Seibon hatch, gas cap, canards, & fender vents are extremely subtle on the black exterior of the FD.
Front End
The APR carbon fiber mirrors, Seibon Scoot Style hood, ZK Motoring carbon fiber headlight housings paired with a set of Heise LED headlights, and the Feed Type-II front bumper really set off the aggressive styling of the front end.
Side
With the R-Magic front fenders, Feed carbon fiber side skirts, Rotary 13B1 aluminum door handles & Evo-R carbon fiber covers, this RX-7 sits with an aggressive look ready to carve up the corners.
Wheels & Tires
With a staggered set of 18×9.5 & 18×10 Gram Lights 57Transcend wheels help give this RX-7 a simple yet elegant look. Helping keep this car gripped up around corners is a staggered set of Maxxis Victra VR-1 tires in 255/35 up front & 285/30 out back.
So what all will it take to stop a 650whp rotary?
Well to start, a Chase Bays brake eliminator kit, stainless steel braided brake lines at all four corners, a set of Brembo F50 front calipers with drilled rotors & race compound pads. The relocated rear brake kit helps fit larger Brembo rotors out back help curtail the car into a nice little package of stopping power when it’s needed.
Dash & Cluster
A Momo steering wheel, Evo-R carbon fiber gauge cluster & dash trim pieces help compliment the interior while adding a nice edge to it. Haltech digital dash & Defi gauges help monitor everything on this little rotary ripper while driving around.
Suspension
Suspension & chassis reinforcement comes from a set of Megan Racing EZII coilovers, MazdaSpeed front strut tower bar, AutoEXE rear strut tower bar, and a set of Suspension Techniques front & rear sway bars.
Seats
The interior quality is very subtle yet modernizing. A set of Sparco Pro 2000-II seats with a G-Force 6-point harness help hold Grant & passenger in place when that 32PSI kicks in.
Interior
Paired with the seats, a Kirk Racing 4-point roll cage help keep the cockpit a very safe & sturdy place.
Drivetrain & Engine
Powering this little FD is a street ported 13B-REW built by LCRotary. A Garrett GTX4202R modified by WORK Turbo feeds compressed air into that happy little Dorito.
A custom 4” full exhaust by MPFab helps it retain that classic rotary sound while subtracting a substantial amount of overall weight from the vehicle.
6 Injector Dynamics ID2000 injectors, Fuelab 600LPH brushless fuel pump, a custom surge tank all help feed fuel to keep this car running strong.
Haltech Elite 1500 ECU helps Grant control & dial in everything he needs to operate this fun corner carver & run down an approaching challenger on the way home.
A Glease Manufacturing 321SS 2” runner V-band manifold, Turbosmart Comp Gate 40 Gen V wastegates, with an Elite Rotary intake manifold all help this guy hold 32PSI at 650WHP.
So what is this thing using to put all that power down to the ground? A T56 Magnum transmission mated with a ClutchMasters 850 strapped clutch with a TII clutch type differential in an OEM FD RX-7 casing helps put it all down in a fun & reliable way.
